Two colour-loving, curly haired, creative sisters.
Hello!
We are sisters; Amy & Katie. Born in England and after travelling the globe for work and play, we live here in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. We have been working together since 2020…such a joy as most of our professional careers we have been in different hemispheres!
METcALfe started as an experiment, combining our COVID-19 Lockdown creative projects. Then an opportunity to exhibit at a local Sculpture Festival in late 2020 came up and we virtually sold out…we tried the experiment again and the same happened!
Now we are stocked the length and breadth of New Zealand and further afield!
Any special clients or brands you have worked for?
In our previous creative roles we have worked with the likes of David Trubridge, JaguarLandrover, Habitat UK, Bentley Motors, Audi/VW DCC and Cavalier Bremworth, to name a few. More recently we've added Watties and Freshco to the list. We've also been finalists in The Circle Awards (2021) and RT Nelson Sculpture Award (2022)...we will leave it there, we already have BIG heads with the curls!
Why should I buy your work
Because they are so much fun! Our artworks and products come from a combination of play and a strong sustainability focus. We are repurposing materials for the most part: bright, bold colourful steel drums and playing with them within the workshop to make whimsical florals, food and fashion items! If you are a colour lover, considerate about our planet and have a sense of mischief - then join our club!
What are your favourite colours?
Amy - Orange….Always orange. Known for its creative and energetic symbolism…this sums Amy up to a T!
Katie - Blue. Navy Blue to be precise and especially when in a blue/white stripe! Considered the most popular colour worldwide, it’s all inspired by nature…the sea and the sky.
Favourite Food?
Amy - anything vegan!
Katie - do I have to choose between rare steak, chocolate and a glass of Pinot Noir? Impossible!
